Army Wives' star Kim Delaney delivers discomboulated speech

The Army Wives star appeared to veer off script during a protracted and, at times, incoherent speech Thursday night at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center at the Liberty Medal Award presentation to former defense secretary Robert Gates.

The actress, 49, fidgeted at the podium as she told crowd members how she "served in active military duty family for five years" and went on to say how she "attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend's son."

After pausing, Delaney then explained to the crowd, who sat in stunned silence, that she in fact was talking about her role on the Lifetime television show, though she noted her father was a Korean war veteran.

Almost as an after thought, she mentioned that these were not actually her own experiences, but those of her character on Army Wives, confusing the silent crowd. Delaney was escorted from the stage before her speech was finished, reported ABC’s local affiliate WPVI Philadelphia. EW reached out to Delaney’s representatives, who offered no comment.
