Kim Delaney's Display of Odd Behavior

The Army Wives star appeared to veer off script during a protracted and, at times, incoherent speech Thursday night at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center at the Liberty Medal Award presentation to former defense secretary Robert Gates.

The actress, 49, fidgeted at the podium as she told crowd members how she "served in active military duty family for five years" and went on to say how she "attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend's son."

After pausing, Delaney then explained to the crowd, who sat in stunned silence, that she in fact was talking about her role on the Lifetime television show, though she noted her father was a Korean war veteran.

According to a local ABC news affiliate, Delaney, 49, was escorted off the stage before she could finish her speech.

According to the Associated Press, the actress, 49, fumbled with words and struggled to complete sentences as she read from a teleprompter at the event honoring former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who received the 2011 Liberty Medal that night.

People reports that Delaney seemed to confuse her real life with her character’s on the popular Lifetime series. She implied that she “served in active military duty family for five years" and "attended numerous military funerals, including that of my best friend's son," but soon clarified that she was in fact referring to her character, Claudia Holden.

Her unsettling demeanor caused the audience to sit silently and uncomfortably as they watched the former All My Children star appear disoriented.

According to reports, she was removed from the stage before the completion of her speech.

Delaney, who is a Philadelphia native, has not released an explanation or statement.
