Go Daddy Passes 45 Million Domain Mark

In an informal notice sent out on December 27, web hosting and domain registration giant  Go Daddy  (www.GoDaddy.comy ) announced that it had passed the 45 million mark for domain names under management.
The company said that December 26 at 6:02 p.m. mountain time, it received the registration for the 45 millionth domain.
Already the world’s largest registrar,  Go Daddy ’s latest milestone further solidifies its dominant position in that market.
The news comes amid the company’s preparations (now something of an annual tradition) for its 2011 Super Bowl ad.  Go Daddy ’s original Super Bowl ad, the controversy surrounding it, and the company’s clever playing of that controversy, was an early key to catapulting the company to its current dominating position in the domain and hosting markets.
Recently,  Go Daddy  said it would share some of year’s Super Bowl spotlight with the recently launched .co top level domain, in an effort to help draw attention to the new domain.
Just as it took a huge chunk of the domain market over the last decade,  Go Daddy  has recently stepped up its efforts to make a similar push in the SSL market, leading to some strong reactions from the established leaders in that market.
Go Daddy president and COO Warren Adelman discussed the SSL market, and  Go Daddy ’s position in it, in an interview with the WHIR earlier this fall.
