Purple balloons and butterflies released to honour Kiesha Weippeart

More than 200 people gathered in Sydney's west this morning for a church service to farewell murdered six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart.
Mourners wept inside the Holy Family Church at Mount Druitt as a choir of children sang Hallelujah.
Many of those attending this morning's service helped search for the six-year-old girl when she was reported missing in August last year.
Kiesha Weippeart's remains were found buried in a shallow grave in bushland in April.
The girl's mother and step-father are being tried for her murder.

The service comes one week after a private funeral for Kiesha, who was allegedly murdered by her mother Kristi Abrahams and step-father Robert Smith.

The congregation heard eulogies from family friend Alison Anderson, a former foster parent to Kiesha, and also Flora Tiitii, the defacto partner of Robert's brother Jason.

Kiesha's father Chris Weippheart did not attend, but his mother, Liz, sat front row.

Two police officers involved in the investigation received a round of applause and a gift from the organisers.
