Kris Jenner: Kim's marriage 'wasn't a sham'

Kris Jenner appeared on ABC's "The View" on Wednesday to talk about her memoir, but ended up talking about her daughter Kim Kardashian's divorce announcement and Jenner seems to be wondering what went wrong herself.

"I'm actually searching for the same answer to that question," Jenner said when asked what could have happened in a mere 72 days of marriage to warrant a divorce.

Jenner teared up when she mentioned the conversation she had with her daughter and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star.

"She says mommy this is something that I feel that I need to do. Please trust me, please be there for me. And of course as her mom I'm with my girls through thick and thin and it's tough," Jenner said. "It's a tough time for the family and for Kim and for everybody involved. It's really hard to go through this on such a public stage."

Kim Kardashian, 31, filed for divorce from Kris Humphries at a Los Angeles court on Monday, October 31, which she also listed as the date of the pair's separation, according to legal papers obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. She cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. This was Kardashian's second marriage. She and Humphries, 26, have no children.

The wedding of Kardashian and Humphries took place on August 20 under tight security at a $20 million estate near Santa Barbara. More than 500 people, including celebrities, attended the highly-publicized event.

The wedding was filmed for the E! special "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event," which aired earlier this month.

Though some reports claim that Kardashian and Humphries profited millions off their wedding, Jenner denied such reports.

"Did they net or gross any amount of money? Absolutely not," Kris Jenner continued. ""Kim definitely made money [but] when it was all said and done, Kim had to pay a lot of money... The money that she made went to the wedding. She still owed money."

During the sit-down, Jenner insisted the 72-day marriage wasn't just another scheme in building Kim's takeover of the world: "It certainly wasn't a sham, certainly wasn't for TV," Jenner said. "We have enough going on on our show that we don't have to make things up. She felt that she was in love with him. It was an amazing time ... I had no idea there was a problem at the time."

She went on to say that Kim, who headed to Australia after the divorce announcement, did not profit from the wedding extravaganza -- which viewers got to see in a two-day special on E!, the network that airs "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and its sister shows. Rumors have swirled that E! bought the rights to the wedding for a reported $17.9 million.

But things got a little murky when she was pressed about how much money Kardashian and Humphries made during their time together: "They made some money for the pictures that were sold and things like that, but at the end of the day, that money went towards the wedding and Kim had to pay a great deal of money (for the balance of the wedding). We don't sell television rights."

And there are no regrets on just how much of a spectacle the family's life has become.

"This is what we do," she said. "We have people who have invested in our lives from day one, season one, and we enjoy what we do. I feel so blessed and grateful for the TV show."
