Health notes October 16, 2011

Water makes up two thirds of our bodies. All bodily systems depend on it. We lose water constantly, even by breathing, so we need to replenish by drinking liquids, plus eating foods that are high in water, eg, fruit such as watermelon, which is 97 per cent water.
The amount you need varies depending on your size, how active you are and the climate. Pregnant and breast-feeding women need lots, as do children. Aim to drink enough so that you don’t feel thirsty and your urine is pale yellow in colour.
You can get ill by not drinking enough. Dehydration can lead to headaches, constipation and lowered mental and physical functioning.
Sipping still water is best. Tap water is fine; herbal teas are good. Caffeinated drin
