iPhone 5 Release Date: Despite Record Sales

iPhone at night, while lying in bed. When in that mode, I usually turn the ringer off, and lower the volume on the phone itself by playing a video and then muting the audio. Unfortunately, Siri still doesn’t care and thanks to Apple integrating a microphone key into the on-screen keyboard, one mistype and you hear a tone. This tone isn’t quiet either, and tends to disturb others that may be sleeping around me. Also, if Siri is talking, pressing the volume buttons has no affect on how loud or soft Siri talks.

Initial claims from commentators questioned the popularity of the iPhone 4S after its Oct. 4 unveiling.

However, the smartphone has proved that it has just as much demand as any other iPhone.

Not only did it sell out of pre-orders in just 24 hours on Oct. 7, but it has also sold over 4 million handsets so far.

Before its release, a survey conducted by Retrevo polled 1,300 smartphone users in the U.S. about their opinion of the iPhone 4S.

Of the demographic, 47 percent of current iPhone 4 users said they were disappointed in the iPhone 4S, detailing that they hoped for a bigger display, revamped design and 4G capability.

The iPhone 4S has been advertised for its faster processor, high-resolution 8MP camera and its exclusive feature, the virtual personal assistant, Siri.

However, after months of speculation about an iPhone 5, which was rumored to have a tear drop shape, a larger screen and a thinner, rounder body, many are most disappointed that the iPhone 4S has maintained the chassis of the iPhone 4.

Commentators note that it is the software updates that are driving the popularity of the iPhone 4S.

Retrevo's survey found that 71 percent of smartphone users were not disappointed in the iPhone 4S, while 53 percent of iPhone 4 users had no problem with the smartphone.

Despite a large amount of iPhone 4 users saying they were not happy with the iPhone 4S, 42 percent said they still planned to buy the smartphone.

Forty-four percent of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users said they planned to buy the iPhone 4S.

On the Oct. 14 release date, Sprint reported having its best day of sales ever due to the iPhone 4S.

AT&T has reported that they have now activated over 1 million iPhone 4S smartphones.
