Grace Potter to stream concert in support of Free Trade Month

Grace Potter and her band The Nocturnals are set to headline a concert aimed at raising awareness of Fair Trade Month (October). The concert will be taped in Los Angeles at Paramour Mansion this Thursday, the 20th, and will be broadcast for free in an exclusive stream on Green Mountain Coffee's Facebook page.


Grace Potter, who plays her own brand of folk rock, gained even more fame when she paired with country giant Kenny Chesney for his song "You & Tequila," hopes that exposing fans to the concept of fair trade will help alleviate international poverty. On her site, Potter explains, "There’s no better time than now for people to make the switch and look for the Fair Trade Certified label on the products they buy. It seems like a small thing, but together, we can make a difference in the quality of life for farmers around the world.”


In honor of Fair Trade Month, Grace Potter & the Nocturals will be giving a special online performance for its fans, which will be streamed live exclusively on Green Mountain Coffee’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/greenmountaincoffee) on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. Mountain time.

Fair trade is a global movement to alleviate poverty. It provides a fair price to coffee farmers for their beans, resulting in high-quality coffee and a higher quality of life in coffee-growing communities. By live streaming a special performance exclusively for Green Mountain Coffee, Potter hopes to inform her fans on the importance of Fair Trade and how small choices — like the coffee we drink — can help drive big change. Musician Michael Franti held a similar conference on Oct. 8.


Since Tropical Storm Irene inundated Vermont, Potter has done a number of benefit concerts to help with flood relief.


In her concert, Potter will share how choices as small as the coffee people drink can help make big changes.


Potter says working with Green Mountain Coffee is a great way to encourage people to make the switch and look for the Fair Trade Certified label on the products they buy.
