DiGreggorio, 67, was a member of the band for more than 40 years. He co-wrote the hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
In a statement, Charlie Daniels said, "I am in shock. Taz was one of my best friends. The CDB has lost a great friend and musician."
DiGregorio was traveling to meet the band's tour bus when his car crashed near Nashville on Interstate 40, according to authorities.
"I am in shock now, Taz was one of my best friends," Charlie shares on his website. "The CDB family has lost a great friend and musician. We traveled many miles together and shared so many nights on the road. We're going to miss you buddy. You were one of a kind and will never be forgotten. We send our deepest condolences to the family."
The 67-year-old, who had been with the Charlie Daniels Band for more than 40 years, was on his way to meet the bus in Cheatham County, Tenn., when he was involved in a single-car crash. The band, who were heading to a show at the Cumming Country Fair and Festival in Georgia, canceled that show, as well as their show scheduled for tomorrow night (Oct. 15) in Waterbury, Conn.
In addition to performing in the band, DiGregorio was also a writer on several of the band's most notable tunes, including 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' and 'The Legend of Wooley Swamp.'
Funeral services are still pending.
The band is scheduled to perform at the Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 29, as part of an all-star birthday celebration for Charlie, who will turn 75 the day before. Clint Black, the Grascals and Lee Greenwood are all scheduled to appear.
