Mayer debuts in top spot as Adele falls


But Australian fans hoping this feat would be followed up with a tour announcement will be disappointed as Mayer is due to undergo surgery for a chronic throat problem which could put him out of action for several months.

It was a big week for new releases with quirky piano gal Regina Spektor also debuting in the top 10 with her latest record What We Saw From the Cheap Seats.

Among the albums debuting in the top 20 were By The Horns, the latest solo effort from Julia Stone (No.11), Valtari from popular alt-heroes Sigur Ros (No.14), the Eurovision Song Contest compilation (No.15) and Ladyhawke's much-anticipated second LP Anxiety (No.17).

The death of Robin Gibb had Bee Gee fans buying best-ofs to relive their memories of the brothers' music, with The Ultimate Bee Gees landing in the top 10 (No.7) and The Number Ones debuting at No.23.

It appears fans of the hit TV show The Voice have already downloaded their favourite tunes from contestants with the The Final 24 compilation album making a modest entry at No.26.

Keith Urban's The Story So Far has been pushed to number two.

The Bee Gees have broken into the top 10 - The Ultimate Bee Gees moves into the number seven spot as fans farewell founding member Robin Gibb, who died aged 62.

Flo Rida continues to dominate the singles chart with Whistle, while Chris Brown's new song, Don't Wake Me Up, is at fifth place.

Guy Sebastian's latest offering, Gold, has debuted at number 10.

The Story So Far continues remains in pole position on the country chart. Urban's other album, Greatest Hits: 18 Kids, has fallen four spots to number nine.

A new entry to the country chart, Mr and Mrs by husband and wife duo O'Shea, makes its debut in fourth position.

Johnny Cash lives on with The Essential Johnny Cash collection jumping nine spots to claim eighth position.
