Moonrise Kingdom is a 2012 film directed by Wes Anderson, written by Anderson and Roman Coppola, and starring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, and an ensemble cast.
Filming took place in Rhode Island from April until June 29, 2011. Worldwide rights to the independently produced film were acquired by Focus Features.
In 1965, a pair of young lovers (Kara Hayward, Jared Gilman) flee their New England island town, prompting a local search party led by the Sheriff (Bruce Willis) and the girl's parents (Bill Murray, Frances McDormand) to fan out to find them.

The film premiered on May 16, 2012, as the opening film of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. It will be screened in competition. It will be released in regular French cinemas the same day. The American release is scheduled for May 25 through Focus Features though it will only be released initially in New York City and Los Angeles
Moonrise Kingdom has earned positive acclaim from critics. It currently holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 89 reviews.
