Ricki Lake Tweets about first 'Dancing With The Stars' injury

Dancing with the Stars has claimed it's first casualty of the season.
Celebrity contestant Ricki Lake tweeted a photo of a giant bruise on her shin, which she acquired during dance practice, yesterday.
The 42-year-old former talk show host hit her leg as she was twirling around the dance floor and an ambulance was called to attend to her.

Look, my first injury,' the former talk show host tweeted at partner Derek Hough today.
She added, 'Don't ask how it happened. Not sure how my bruise turned into a medic showing up? I'm fine!!!'
After attending to the star, doctors later gave the star the all clear.

Ricki gave an additional explanation about her injury to TMZ after hobbling out of rehearsal today.
'I injured myself yesterday by hitting my heel into my shin ... I'm fine,' she said.
Perhaps that's why she felt it appropriate to tweet at pal Kirstie Alley today, writing: 'I've got my work cut out for me. Channeling ya' mama. xo.'
Her injury doesn't appear to be all that serious though, despite looking as if it seriously hurts, which is a good thing as she is pipped to be one of the season's best dancers.
And Ricki appears to be having the time of her life.
In addition to making great friends in Hough, Karina Smirnoff and partner JR Martinez, she's already losing weight.
'Guess which celeb dancer on #DWTS already lost 5 inches...Hint-this one!!!' she wrote September 7.

"Dancing With The Stars" staff seemed to take the injury seriously, even if Lake did not. Two hours after her first Tweet Lake wrote, "Not sure how my bruise turned into a medic showing up? I'm fine!! :)" She posted a photo of herself with Hough, fellow contestant J.R. Martinez and his dance partner Karina Smirnoff.

The 42-year-old is prepping for the big competition, which kicks off on September 19. Previously she told OnTheRedCarpet.com that she agreed to compete on "Dancing With The Stars" after watching actress Kirstie Alley overcome hurdles on the previous season.

Lake had attended a taping of an episode of the previous season, which saw Alley fall during a performance and even lose a shoe during a different dance routine. The 60-year-old actress placed second, while Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and partner Kym Johnson walked away with the big prize.

"I was like, I gotta do this," Lake told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "The stories, it's so compelling. Kirstie Alley ... that was what pushed me over the edge. Seeing what happened to her physically, seeing what happened internally. You could see on her face, every week, that confidence. You want that feeling."

Both Alley and Lake have battled weight problems throughout their lives. Alley dropped several pounds while competing on "Dancing With The Stars."

On September 8, Lake Tweeted to Alley saying, "I've got my work cut out for me. Channeling ya' mama. Xo." She also posted a photo of herself standing next to a poster of Alley during her stint on "Dancing With The Stars."

Among the other celebrities set to appear on the series this season - Chaz Bono, who underwent a sex change in 2009 and was born Chastity Bono, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, reality star Kristin Cavallari, Los Angeles Laker Ron Artest, actor David Arquette and Chynna Phillips of the group Wilson Phillips.

Fashion expert Carson Kressley, TV host Nancy Grace, soap star J.R. Martinez, U.S. soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo, Italian actress and George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star Rob Kardashian make up the rest of the cast.

Lake is best known for her syndicated talk show 'Ricki Lake,' which ran between 1998 and 2004. She is also an actress who has appeared in films like "Hairspray" in 1988 and "Cry-Baby," a 1990 musical movie starring Johnny Depp. Lake also starred in the 1994 dark comedy "Serial Mom."

Lake hosted the VH1 reality show "Charm School" in 2009 and is currently set to return to television full time in the fall of 2012 with a new daytime talk show. She recently got engaged to boyfriend Christian Evans. Lake has two sons with her first husband, Rob Sussman.
