Speaking to Hobo Magazine, the multi award winning actress revealed, "I often dream of quitting acting.Walking away and becoming a laundress or a sous chef or maybe writing other people's love letters for a living. Clearly, I don't like to be in charge". In a frank interview, Williams suggested being successful at something is "a sure sign that it is about to walk out of your life because it ceases to hold your mind and creative energy hostage". Williams has twice been nominated for an Oscar - first for Brokeback Mountain and then for her role alongside Ryan Gosling in the R-rated 'Blue Valentine'. The actress has a 5-year-old daughter with the late actor Heath Ledger, who died in 2008 from an accidental overdose of prescription medication.
"I often dream of quitting acting," Williams told Hobo magazine. "Walking away and becoming a laundress or a sous chef or maybe writing other people's love letters for a living. Clearly, I don't like to be in charge. And thinking of quitting is just keeping going in disguise. When you have options, anything is bearable. It's when a situation is inescapable that it becomes hell."
"It seems to me that as soon as you get good at something, it is a sure sign that it is about to walk out of your life because it ceases to hold your mind and creative energy hostage," she added.
Williams said she thought about the issue after seeing two productions put on by British actor and director Simon McBurney's theatre group Complicite, adding: "felt like I had the sleep rubbed out of my eyes. It seemed like a new horizon for me."
Ledger, who died in 2008 from an accidental overdose of prescription medication, is the father of Williams' 5-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose. Williams, who has spoken about the late actor many times in the press, recently said that since his death, her life has "kind of repaired itself."
Williams has kept busy with several acting projects in recent months.
She plays the title role in the upcoming movie "My Week With Marilyn." The movie is based on the week that British writer Colin Clark worked as Monroe's assistant while she was filming "The Prince and the Showgirl" in the United Kingdom in the summer of 1956. Monroe died in 1962 at age 36.
The film is set to premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 9 and is due to be be released in theaters on November 4.
Williams also recently filmed the independent movie "Take This Waltz," which was directed and written by Sarah Polley and also stars Seth Rogen and Sarah Silverman. No wide release date has been announced.
Williams is currently shooting the fantasy film "Oz: The Great and Powerful." Production began in July. Williams plays the witch Glinda, while James Franco plays the title role of the wizard. The movie also stars Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz and is set for release on March 8, 2013.
