Kate Middleton must enjoy Kensington Palace—it's right in the middle of things. And royal-watchers love it even more, because their favorite celebs are up close and ready to be spotted. If, of course, the watchers manage to be in exactly the right place at precisely the right time. The duchess headed off, recently, for a quick, last-minute shopping trip minutes before closing time, and one of her biggest fans, reports Daily Mail, happened to be right behind in the cashier line. Can you beat that for luck?
A blogger named Ashlin, who writes a regular getwhatkatewore.com column, found herself standing in line at the Topshop on High Street, just around the corner from the palace, immediately behind her heroine, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. "She said: 'I was so starstruck that I was shaking and I had to ask myself 'am I alive?'.'" Ashlin, the mega-fan, got to stand right there and watch the future queen buy a pencil skirt with teal polka dots and a velvet-trimmed, cobalt-blue jacket. Even more fascinating, she got to watch Kate Middleton choose between two pairs of inexpensive earrings—purchasing a feathery design and leaving behind a round pair. Not exactly the crown jewels, but all that glittery, antique stuff must get boring after a while.
Kate snapped up a blue velvet trim boucle jacket (£65), a dark green polka dot pencil skirt (£38) and a pair of gold earrings shaped like feathers.
But the thrifty royal decided to ditch another pair of earrings costing £8.50 - large oval golden studs - at the last minute and left them at the till.
The skirt and the earrings have already sold out online while the Topshop jacket is only available in size 14.
The cashier told People magazine: 'She was low-key and casual – she seemed so normal.
'She was really chilled out despite some customers in the queue behind her saying, "Oh my God it’s her" and pointing – she didn’t seem fazed by it all and she was really sweet.'
As soon as Kate left the store the cashier made an announcement to inform the staff who they had just served.
Fashion blogger Ashlin who runs the site getwhatkatewore.com, which looks at the Duchess' outfits, was behind Kate in the queue.
She told the Mail Online: 'I was so starstruck that I was shaking and I had to ask myself “am I alive?”.'
'According to the cashier, Kate was actually in the store for a bit browsing and even went into the fitting rooms to try her clothes on.'
