Bristol Palin's Camp Calls Homophobia Accusations "Completely Unfounded"

BRISTOL PALIN got into a tussle with a bar patron at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood while filming her reality show.

Palin had just fallen off the bar's mechanical bull when a bald man yelled, "Did you ride baby daddy Levi Johnston like that? Your mother is a whore! Your mother is a f - - - - - - devil!"

Palin then confronted the man, asking him why he hated her mother. His most cogent response was that Sarah Palin is "evil." C'mon, dude, if you're going to harass the girl in public, at least have an answer ready in case she fights back.

We were almost proud of Lil' Palin for taking the high road, but then she blew it. "Is it because you're a homosexual and that's why you hate her?" Palin asked. After more similarly high-minded back-and-forths between the two, Bristol walked away, only to come back at the Bald Man, complete with some dramatic "gay" mannerisms, saying "Let's go!" as if she's ready to take this one outside.

Oh, honey.

Bristol almost had this one, but then she went on the offensive with no evidence, other than stereotypes (and the fact that she's in a West Hollywood cowboy bar). There was no reason to attack the guy for his decidedly private sexuality.

Plus, let's be honest, being gay is a pretty good reason to not like Sarah Palin, considering she opposes same-sex marriage and extending benefits to same-sex partners and was against the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Let's all agree that both parties were in the wrong here. Bald Man should have kept his mouth shut and Palin should have gone with the sticks-and-stones defense.

"She was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother," her rep said in a statement to TMZ.

"Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family."

The 20-year-old's face-off with Stephen Hanks began after she took a ride on the mechanical bull at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood and Hanks shouted, "Did you ride Levi like that?! Your mother's a whore!"

When Bristol confronted him, the conflict—which was all caught on video—quickly escalated, with Hanks suggesting that Sarah Palin belongs in hell.

"Is it because you're a homosexual...and that's why you hate her?" Bristol asked him. She and her friends left the bar a few moments later without incident (beyond the obvious, anyway).

"The situation ended with no incident," her rep says, "and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views."
